Canine antibiotics are widely used for many conditions involving bacteria. The skin is direct contact with the environment, full of microorganism and when the skin is affected, it is common to find infections. The majority of skin infections in dogs are caused by staphylococci bacteria, but many others may be involved too. In some cases this bacteria are resistant to antibiotics and more tests will be necessary to apply the correct treatment.
Common Antibiotics
The following list of antibiotics are commonly used in the treatment of skin infections, based upon several factors including good skin penetration, bacterial activity in pus and tissues, effectiveness against the most common bacteria insolated in skin infections and the severity of the infection.
- Penicillinsare a broad spectrum antibiotic class. The most common antibiotic used in this group is Amoxi Tablets. It can be presented combined with clavulanic acid (Clavamox Tablets and Clavamox Drops) to reinforce the potency.
